Rethinking Light in Your Space

We all love the elongating days of Spring. The later evenings on the patio, the longer walks after dinner, the seemingly more abundant hours of the day to enjoy, relax, and take in the new sprouting beauty all around us. Three cheers for Spring and all of its glories, right!? As we all collectively celebrate more light outside, maybe it’s time to rethink the lighting at our homes as well. One or two lighting updates in or outside of your home can liven up your space and serve as the perfect way to get ready for summer parties and gatherings.

Shedding Some Light

Whether you’re an overhead light person or a lamp person, it’s possible that your rooms may need a little “light” updating this season. Take a few moments at dusk to walk around your home, switch on the lights you normally use, and take note of whether or not the space is getting the right kind of light you wish for each room. Are all your LED bulbs cool or warm? Are any bulbs in need of replacement? Is there a dark corner that always bothers you? Does each bathroom have a table lamp for offering dim light when necessary? Do hallways have plug-in lights for visibility? Make a wish list for what you want, what you need, and what you can budget for this month. Lamps don’t need to be extravagant to add a lot of charm to a space, and sometimes just moving around what you already own can add a whole new dimension of lighting to a room.

Create New Vibes Inside…

New lighting doesn’t always require a whole new lighting system. Consider installing dimmers in dining rooms and living rooms so you can easily curate the quality of light. For a sleek look in hallways and bathrooms, we love the modern night lights with adjustable brightness settings that come on and off automatically. You can even purchase battery operated lamps on timers for spaces that don’t have access to electricity. A hint of golden glow here and there can add a touch of sophistication to your rooms with little effort.

…And Outside

Now’s the perfect time to be thinking ahead to warmer months and outdoor gatherings too. Upgrading patio and porch lighting can be such a relatively easy way to elevate your outdoor space, even if you don’t have a green thumb. Cafe lights are a simple, inexpensive yet festive option for just about any backyard. We like plug-in varieties over solar powered, since they tend to have greater durability and work more efficiently. If you’re going for a more timeless look, consider garden lights that cast light directly on the ground, which helps reduce overall light pollution and classes up your act.

Black iron lanterns are another great choice for any outdoor area. Simple white pillar citronella candles add old world charm while they fend off mosquitos and we love hanging lanterns on traditional shepherds hooks along a path or around a deck.

However you decide to “lighten up” your space, you’re sure to enjoy a more atmospheric home with just a few tweaks to your lighting game this Spring. A new noteworthy lamp or a string of outdoor lights can elevate your home to a more inviting space with just the flip of a switch!
