Memphis Makes Me…Appreciate the Finer Things

Memphis is a vibrant city full of color, life, and self-expression.

We pride ourselves on showing the world who we are through what we create and from excellent local theatre to dance to live music, we have successfully cultivated a community that loves the performing arts. But we’re also a city that delights in fine and folk art, and with a robust and growing gallery scene, we’re expanding the influence and accessibility of fine art to people all over the region.

These spots are perfect for taking in local art and even getting to know some of the up and coming creatives in the area. Keep tabs on their social events for art shows and opportunities to invest in local artists.

Ugly Art Co.

This gallery opened up during the summer of 2024 and offers an intimate way to both take in local pieces and purchase original works. Ugly Art Co. sets nestled in right between the Sam Phillips Recording Studio and Bar Limina on Madison Avenue in the Edge District and is only open for special events and appointments. Their website, however, is a treasure trove featuring a myriad of original paintings, sculpture, photography, and more…all available for purchasing and many at a price even a new collector could afford. Check their social media platforms for visiting information and upcoming show dates.

Crosstown Concourse

The galleries at Crosstown are a city-wide favorite. With over 7,000 sq feet of space, the galleries are the perfect backdrop for pieces from all over the world to works created right here in Memphis. Hosting ten distinct exhibits a year, the East and West galleries are always featuring works that will fascinate and engage, and opening receptions during the first weekend of each exhibit gather the public and the artists for conversation and celebration. Check the Crosstown website for upcoming shows, receptions, and drop by between Tuesdays and Sundays every week to explore the featured art.

Stock and Belle

Memphis’ very own lifestyle boutique sets on South Main downtown and offers an incredible variety of clothing, gifts, accessories, and local merchandise. It’s the perfect place to pick up something beautiful and its in-house art gallery is no exception. By hosting shows for local artists, Stock and Belle keeps its regional artists encouraged, supported, and accessible to the community. Drop in to see whose pieces are featured in the back of the store. Don’t miss Trolley Night artist receptions (such a fun time to see new and old friends while helping build local culture), and invest in the feature local artists, even if that means snapping up a print, sticker, accessory, or giving them a follow on social media.

Memphis is a grit and grind city, but it’s also a hub for creativity, beauty, encouragement, and support. Bringing a bit of local beauty into your home is the perfect way to celebrate all the finer things it has to offer.
