10 Simple Ways To Cozy Up Your Home This Fall
Autumn Vibes
Our hearts may feel Fall-ish way before the thermometer catches up, but warm or not, October is full-on Autumn. Lean into the coziness of the season by making a few subtle changes to your home that will bring Fall inside and give your space the warmth it needs for the coming months.
Go Natural
No need to go buy plastic orange stuff. Lean into what nature is offering and set the tone with earthy hues and subtle glows.
Gather branches from your yard and arrange them in a pretty container…an ice bucket, Ball jar, or whatever you have on hand will do. The branches don’t need to be fancy or even leafy…a bunch of long, thin ones are perfect, and if you’ve got a pretty black, rust or olive green ribbon to tie around the “vase”, even better. Let the natural colors and textures create some comfort in your living room or dining table.
Burn your candles. Welcome earlier sunsets with a flickering glow. Make an effort always to have a scentless candle burning during dinner time for a little extra coziness.
Throw throws…everywhere. Every couch and chair needs a throw blanket starting now. Extra points for contrasting colors, artificial furs, and animal prints for an elevated look.
Wooden accents go far this time of year. Set a charcuterie board on your dining room table and litter it with small glass votive holders. A cutting board with brass candlesticks on your coffee table will add warmth on a dime and give you a fireside glow before it’s time to crank up the fireplace.
White will work! Winter whites have become a trend during the last several years, and with the wide availability of white pumpkins and gourds, it’s entirely possible to major in neutrals and still dress your home for Fall. Add pops of white with natural elements, keep your linens white even as you incorporate fluffier textures for Fall and Winter, and consider using touches of light wheat or nut browns in candles or ribbon to add dimension.
Try some pottery. Now’s the perfect time to set out and use pottery you may have collected over the years. Create a tablescape with your pieces or set them on the buffet or mantle for a more rustic look.
Add softer textures on your couch pillows…think velvets and chenilles. And change out brighter hues for golds, terra cottas, or mocha brown.
Autumnal scents go a long way. Choose seasonal hand soaps and all-purpose sprays for cleaning. If you diffuse essential oils, switch over to 5 Thieves for hints of clove and spice and its germ-cleansing quality.
Wreath your door. It’s easy to always have a seasonal wreath if you invest in an all-season variety of green and simply change out the ribbon or bow. Burlap, cream, or a wheat color gingham are perfect for Fall.
Get jazzy. Even if you don’t change one piece of decor in your home, but light a candle and play some jazz, you’ll certainly feel some autumnal vibes!
Enjoy the season, regardless of the chill, with richer colors and softer surroundings this Fall. You’ll create a space you want to cozy up with, and invite others into, all season long.
