Summer Sweet Tooth

The infamous Memphis summer humidity has us all itching for relief. Some invest in a pool membership, others pick up indoor hobbies, and others indulge in their favorite chilly treats. Thankfully, Memphis is overflowing with frozen dessert choices that will satisfy even the sweetest sweet tooth.

Tried and True

Ice cream has always been the top contender for everyone’s favorite summer treat. Childhood nostalgia is filled with memories of running to meet the neighborhood ice cream truck, devouring a triple-stacked neapolitan cone at the beach, and building the ultimate ice cream sundae on a lazy June night.

La Michoacana’s homemade ice cream and popsicles are summer staples for Memphians.

One of Memphis’ newest ice cream shops, Sugar Ghost opened its doors this past fall after serving its customers from a food truck. It was instantly a hit with its creative branding and strategic location right in the heart of the trendy and upcoming Broad Avenue Arts District. While their ice cream is a little pricier than other spots, Sugar Ghost delivers extremely high quality and their products are hard to beat.

La Michoacana has also stolen the hearts of locals with its scrumptious homemade ice cream and popsicles. Although its flavors are certainly delightful, La Michoacana draws in loyal customers through its welcoming and family-friendly feel that knocks out other chain competition. The staff are warm and inviting and the restaurant’s spacious layout makes you feel right at home.

Branching Out

There are also several other refreshing treats besides ice cream that will add a fun kick to any outing. Get outside the box and try out some of the other summer dessert spots that Memphis offers!

A 901 staple, Jerry’s Snow Cones has made a name for itself for its out-of-this-world snow cones. Its popularity with locals is signaled by the persistent long line wrapped around the building and extending all the way to the street. The reward is worth the wait however. Jerry’s is known for its non-traditional flavors that are surprising yet delicious. A few fan favorites are fuzzy navel, tiger’s blood, and John Deere. Take it up a notch by making it a “supreme,” mixing soft serve into the cone for a creamier texture.

Although a little more unconventional, bubble tea is another fantastic treat to help you cool down on a warm summer day. Tenn Tea has been consistently rated as the best bubble tea in Memphis and is beloved by locals. Its expansive menu features all kinds of bubble and milk teas to provide something for every palette.

This summer we hope that you kick back, get adventurous, and enjoy some of the best cold treats in the 901!
