Memphis Makes Me... Sing For Spring

Each season in the mid-South has its perks, but most will agree that Memphis shows off its full glory during the springtime. As the weather changes, stunning flowers begin to bloom around the city, giving fresh life to the gloomy atmosphere of February. Cherry blossoms, daffodils, and tulips revive the grey, worn streets and blue skies peak out behind the clouds once again.

After months of being stuck indoors, we can all relate to the pressing need to take full advantage of the gorgeous spring temperatures. The city of Memphis provides endless opportunities to enjoy a fresh start to the year!

Nature

One of the best cures for seasonal blues that follow a long winter is to get moving outside once spring rolls around. Memphis offers so many spaces to enjoy nature and get some doses of Vitamin D. Here are a few of our favorites:

Springtime at Shelby Farms may be just what we all need to thaw out!

  • Shelby Farms: Memphis boasts one of the largest urban parks in the country. The opportunities to explore are infinite –  you can hit the trails, snag a bench under a pavilion, or go fishing in one of the ponds. And of course there are plenty of trails that sprawl out across the 4,500 acres that are perfect for walking, biking, skating, and running – the most beautiful may be the loop that runs around Hyde Lake!

  • Botanic Gardens: You can explore almost one hundred acres of stunning flowers and trees as you walk through these beautiful gardens. They have even provided a list of some of the best blooms that you can see over the course of the next month.

  • Lichterman Nature Center: As part of the Pink Palace Museum, this hidden gem hosts acres of gorgeous greenery. Bring the whole family to learn about ecosystems and local wildlife through their fun and engaging exhibits.

Outside The City

If immersion in nature isn’t your favorite pastime, Memphis furnishes several other fun outdoor activities in the city:

  • Memphis Zoo: Designed to follow an Ancient Egyptian theme, the Memphis Zoo is fun for all ages. Coming out of the quiet winter season, many animals are particularly playful and lively during the warmer spring days. You may even see some cute new baby animals who just joined the zoo family.

  • Downtown Farmers Market: On April 3rd the beloved Farmers Market will reopen for the year. Live music, the sweet aroma of flowers, and gorgeous colors of local produce will enchant you as you mosey through the stalls.

  • Outdoor Restaurants: Switch up your routine with some fun new restaurants that maximize the gorgeous weather. Some of our favorites are Cheffie’s Cafe, Loflin Yard, The Majestic Grille, and Terrace at the River Inn.

As you find your stride in maximizing the coming warmer months, we hope you will join us in appreciating the unique blessings that Memphis has to offer in this season.
