Memphis Makes Me... Hopeful

Living in Memphis is reserved for the stouthearted and resilient. Memphians are a proud bunch and for good reason. Though she may still be engaged in an ongoing struggle for equality on multiple fronts, Memphis has overcome countless barriers to get where she is today. That’s why we are launching this new blog series entitled, “Memphis Makes Me… This series aims to capture the feelings evoked by living in Memphis and intends to share the unique joys of being a Memphian.

Memphis Makes Me... Hopeful

The coronavirus pandemic has upended life as we know it. In an almost unprecedented and eerily warlike manner, all that is familiar has suddenly changed. This crisis is generation-defining and world-changing. But in the midst of this, living in Memphis Makes Me Hopeful.

Memphis gives us several reasons to hope and believe in her despite our current Covid circumstances. Memphis always rises to the occasion and displays her trademark grit. This crisis is no different.

The Medical Community of Memphis

Memphis is home to one of the few Regional Biocontainment Research Facilities in the country. The doctors here are working tirelessly and could be the first to find a cure or treatment for this virus.

Additionally, in a loud message of solidarity and singularity of purpose, the four primary hospitals in Memphis have pledged to work together in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. A selection from the letter from the four CEOs of the hospitals reads,

The greater Memphis area is fortunate to have a robust and high-quality healthcare infrastructure. Baptist, Methodist, Regional One and Saint Francis are exceptionally capable institutions and our mission remains the same as always: to protect and enhance the well-being of this community we all love. We will meet this moment.

The Nonprofits of Memphis

Memphis is full of quality nonprofit organizations led by high-caliber leaders. It’s no surprise that these organizations have also risen to the occasion to meet the various needs around the city. From providing food, to funds, to free coronavirus testing, these organizations display the innovation and heart needed in this unique time of history.
